Sometimes I really crave a small crochet project, and there is nothing better than a home decor project to get a little bust in my cro-jo!
This little crocheted decor is crocheted in no time, and I guarantee it will bring you a little smile every time you'll see it. It's the perfect whimsical addition to your house!

Now, before we start, a few clarifications: these kind of crochet decoration projects aren't meant to be follow to the T, and they are the perfect place to play around with some yarn left in your stash, grab some strings that you have been keeping over many years, go and pick up sticks in a nearby park... really, just get creative! I'll tell you the materials I've used, the yarn I picked, the sizes of it all... but be creative (and thrifty!) with it, there are no wrong materials or sizes with these kind of projects!

Crochet Level:
This pattern is perfect for beginner crocheters.

Yarn:

Sportweight yarn. I used Safran by Drops, 100% cotton Yarn (50 g/160 m)

In colours: Moss green, Pistachio, Red Clay, and Black

Around 15 grams each for the green, 2 grams for the red, and some leftover for the black.

Materials:

Wooden Dowel (mine is 15 cm), tapestry needle

Hook:

3 mm crochet hook

Final Sizes:

Mine is 30 cm hook to the bottom of the longest vine, with a dowel of 15 cm

Stitches and abbreviations used (USA terminology):

Chain: ch

Double Crochet: dc

decrease sc (that is, insert the hook and pull up a loop (2 loops on the hook). Insert the hook in the next st. Pull up a loop (3 loops on the hook). Yarn over, pull through all loops. ): dec sc

Increase sc (that is, place 2 sc in the same stitch): inc sc

Single Crochet: sc

Slip stitch: slst

Pattern:

Here, I first give the pattern for the three components (little leaf, heart-shaped leaf, and strawberry). Then, I'll explain how you can create the vines including these components. In the end, I'll explain how to mount the vines on the dowel and how to hang it.

Little leaf:
The little leaf is very simple to crochet, and it works in this way: ch 6
slst in the second ch from the hook. Then sc, dc, sc, slst in each chain.

Heart-shaped Leaf:
ch 6
dc in the first ch (the first ch is the base of the leaf)
*ch1, dc again in the base of the leaf.*
Repeat between ** for three times in total
Now ch 3, and dc again in the base of the leaf.
*ch1, dc again in the base of the leaf.*
Repeat between ** for three times in total
ch 3 and slst in the base of the leaf

Strawberry:
Ch 2
Row 1: Inc sc in the second ch from the hook, ch 1 and turn (2 sts)
Row 2: Inc sc in each st, ch 1 and turn (4 sts)
Row 3: Inc sc in the first st, sc in the next 2 st, inc sc in the final st, ch 1 and turn (6 sts)
Row 4: 6 sc sts
, ch 1 and turn (6 sts)
Row 5: Dec sc, sc, sc, dec sc (4 sts)

Now, without turning, simply sc around the strawberry (for a better shaping, sl st in the fist st - where you have slip knot).

Stop sc around at the centre of the top of the strawberry. Here, change colour, adding green to make the stem.

Slst in green to attach the yarn at the top of the strawberry.
Ch 3, slst 2 down the chain, turn
Ch 4, slst 3
down the chain, turn
Ch 3, slst 2
down the chain, and slst in the same point and fasten off

At the end, we can flip this stem down and just sew it onto the strawberry body and add also the black speckles for a better look!

How to crochet the vines:
Crocheting the vines is very simple: start with any of the three components, for example, with the heart-shaped leaf. Then, you can just chain, to build distance between the components. Let's say, ch 5.
After these ch to build distance, you can add any of the other components! I'll add here the pattern for a few possible vines as an example, but you can use your own imagination to build any vines, as long as you wish and with as many components as you fancy!

For example:

1) Crochet the heart shaped leaf, ch 5, simple leaf, ch 3, simple leaf again, then ch 5 and fasten off, leaving a tail to secure the vines on the dowel.

2) Crochet the heart shaped leaf, ch 9, simple leaf, ch 3, simple leaf again, then ch 3, heart shaped leaf, ch 5, and fasten off, leaving a tail to secure the vines on the dowel.

3) Crochet the strawberry, and fasten off both the red and green yarn. Attach green yarn at the centre of the steam. Now you can simply ch 7 and fasten off.

You can combine these different components as you want! Find the combinations you like the most and start planning your arrangement for the Whimsical garden!

When it starts to look busy, you have enough!

Assembly:

When I have all my vines, I simply use a needle to secure the vines to the dowel.

Here you can see how I have a little room at the top. You can have it tight around the dowel if you prefer!
Then, I weave in the ends at the bottom and at the top of the vines.

Add the seeds to the strawberry!

Once everything is ready, give it a little steam to have a neater look.

To hang it on the wall, I simply cut a 30 cm piece of yarn, and tied it to the extreme of the dowel with a double knot (really, nothing fancy!!!)
