Acorn&Apricot: tee version
Today I want to take some time to explain how you can crochet yourself a nice and drape-y tee using the Acorn & Apricot pattern!
First of all, the Acorn & Apricot pattern is a Tunisian crochet pattern designed to be perfect for learning how to Tunisian crochet. It can also be used as a stash-buster project for crocheters of any level.
You can find the Acorn & Apricot tunisian crochet design from here: Acorn & Apricot tunisian crochet pattern

This pattern comes in 9 sizes, from XS to 5XL, with a circumference from 90 to 170 cm, and using DK yarn.
However, since I wanted this pattern to be used to go through leftover yarn, I wanted people to be able to use it with any other yarn weight! The solution was to include an electronic sheet and include in the pattern the made-to-measure guide!
You can grab any yarn and hook in your stash, take the measurements of the gauge (a little square with the stitch pattern repeated), insert your own body measurement into the sheet, and all it's done for you: you receive the exact number of rows and stitches you'll need to make your perfect version!
This summer I realised I really would have loved a t shirt version of this pullover, and it was very easy to obtain! I've written down here the steps you can follow for obtaining your perfect t-shirt version!
HOW TO OBTAIN THE T-SHIRT VERSION
1) DK yarn
If you want to crochet your t-shirt using DK yarn, you can simply check if you meet gauge. If this is the case, crocheting the t-shirt version is very easy following these steps:
a) Select the appropriate size
You might want your t-shirt to be more fitted compared to a pullover. The method I like to follow to pick the perfect size it is to grab the t-shirt in my wardrobe that had the fit I'm after and take the measures of it (that is, the width and length at the back, and width and length of the sleeves). The pattern has a table at the beginning with the dimensions for each size, so you can follow the perfect size for your t-shirt.
For example, in my case, I followed the pattern for size XS
b) the panels
Once you know what size you want to crochet, simply follow the pattern for the front and back panel!
No changes are needed! Pretty cool, isn't it?
c) the sleeves
Now, for the sleeves, we of course need to make some changes!
Again, check with your favourite tee what width and length you're after. For the width, you can just check with the sleeve width reported in the size table. In my case, I followed XS.
For the length: I recommend at least 6 cm. You can pick the perfect length for you and simply stop once you reach it, or, you can use the electronic sheet to know in advance the number of rows necessary.
d) final touches
In the classic pattern for the pullover, we have how to crochet the collar, cuffs and bottom ribbing. For the t-shirt version, you can follow them if you're looking for that look. If, like me, you don't want to have ribbing for the t-shirt version, follow these steps instead:
- Collar:
Follow the steps in Setup row for the collar (page10), and that's it, simply skip the steps for the ribbing!
- Sleeves:
Follow the steps for the Cuffs (page 14), simply fasten off once you have followed the instructions before the ribbing, that is, only do:
Facing the Right Side (RS) , attach the yarn - using the same hook as for the body panels - where we have the
seam for the sleeve.
(Sc, 1 sc dec) all around, roughly 1 sc per ch st, and 1 sc dec per 2 ch sts.
Slst in the first sc. Fasten off.
- Bottom hem:
Facing the RS, attach the yarn with a slst - using the same hook as for the body panels - where we
have the seam between the Front and Back Panels.
Sc all around, roughly 1 sc per ch st.
Slst in the first sc you placed. Fasten off.
2) Any other yarn
If you want to use any other yarn, for example, a lighter yarn for a lighter summer feel, then you can use the electronic sheet to find the number of stitches and rows you'll need.
a) Select the appropriate size
Use a t-shirt that has the fit that you're after and input the values in the electronic sheet.
b) the panels
Follow the stitches and rows in the electronic sheet for all panels!
Follow point d) in the previous section for the final touches!
This is really it! I hope you'll enjoy crocheting the t-shirt version of this design!
